Scientific research
Scientific research forms a major basis and cornerstone of a strong economy and it also plays a vital role in as far as a knowledge based economy is concerned. It also increases creativity and productivity as well as improvement in technology. Scientific research should essentially reflect the capacity of the local people or citizens to innovate, invent and apply new technologies in areas of high technology exports as proportional of manufactured goods, number of scientists and human resources on research, coming up with new innovations and inventions, total expenditure on research and development as a reasonable percentage of GDP, average annual number of patents granted to residents and increased business expenditure on research and development percapita.
Our take on scientific research:
- Umbrella believes in inventions, innovations and technology transfer as basis for a strong and resilient economy and the only way to achieve this, is through promoting Research and Development. Our government will therefore invest 10% of a country’s GDP in scientific research to deliberately boost the sector to spur progress in South Sudan.
- Umbrella will go ahead and reinstate National Research Institutes in all regions of the country to motivate young people who are involved in research.
- In addition, it will re-establish the South Sudan Development Corporation (SSDC) to coordinate and oversee all development activities in the country.
- Umbrella led government will also facilitate and motivate all institutions and persons who will be involved in research with an aim of promoting innovations and inventions especially in medicine, industrial sector and technology transfer as well as any other sector of relevance to the economy of our country.
